Two World Press Photo 2024 winners will be in Montreal to meet the public and the media

Montreal, Wednesday, August 14, 2024 – The World Press Photo Montreal Expo team is pleased to announce the presence in Montreal of two World Press Photo 2024 award-winning photographers, Zied Ben Romdhane and Charles-Frédérick Ouellet, who will be in attendance at the event, held from August 28 to October 14 at Marché Bonsecours.
A Tunisian photographer who splits his time between Montreal and Tunis, Zied Ben Romdhane explores the socio-political disparities between Tunisia’s inland and coastal regions. Photographer for the Magnum agency since 2019, Zied Ben Romdhane sees this project as “a visual exploration of Tunisian youth at a time of uncertainty. Despite the end of the dictatorship in 2011, many young people don’t perceive the opportunities and their freedom in the way I would have imagined. So I tried to explore how these young people feel about their situation, their struggles, and their aspirations in a period of complex transition.”
Force majeure exhibition by Charles-Frédérick Ouellet, winner of the 2024 edition
A few weeks ago, the World Press Photo Montréal team announced the premiere of the Force majeureexhibition, featuring a series of large-format images shot by Quebec photographer Charles-Frédérick Ouellet. These black-and-white photos offer a unique look at the forest fires that ravaged several Quebec regions in the summer of 2023. These complementary images to his winning photo will be presented in large format, on the Espace mezzanine of the Marché Bonsecours. Charles-Frédérick Ouellet is the first Quebec photographer to receive this award since Roger Lemoyne 25 years ago.
World Press Photo 2024 edition
This year’s winning photos were selected from over 61,000 entries submitted by 3,851 photographers from 130 countries, resulting in a total of 24 winning projects and six honorable mentions as well as two special mentions. The images cover themes ranging from conflict zones and the climate crisis to touching and intimate family stories. Each photo invites the viewer to step outside the news cycle to delve deeper into remarkable but little-known stories from around the world.
